Start by rinsing umbrella to get sizing out. This leaves the cotton ready to accept paint and pencil for marking design.

Mark out your design peices on paper and then cut out. Lay on umbrella and trace with pencil lightly so paint can easily cover markings.

Paint background in first, that makes it easier to finish detailed designs.

Fabric paints take about 24 hours to dry thoroughly. For a waterproof umbrella you can spray, after it is completely dry, with Scotchguard.
